Norton Internet Security 2004 review

Norton Internet Security 2004 offers a vast collection of protection tools for ensuring the privacy of your Internet connection. This client is the first security tool to combine antivirus protection with the security of an Internet firewall. Unlike its strongest competitor, Black Ice, the complete release of Norton Internet Security is freely available for download as a try before you buy evaluation.

Along with protecting your computer against viruses and unwelcome intrusion from the Internet, Norton Internet Security will also allow you to automatically block annoying banner ads and pop up windows, set up parental site blocking options for restricting access to specific web sites, and block any traffic that you don’t want.

Firewall is at the heart of Norton Internet Security. By monitoring and controlling all connections between your computer and the Internet, this firewall protects you from any and all unauthorized intrusions.

Norton Internet Security presents three default levels of security for you to pick from, or you can also create your own custom level of control. The highest level of security will automatically block ALL access to the Internet unless the user specifically authorizes otherwise.

The medium level of security is recommended for most users and is also configured to block known threats without posting alerts every time an intrusion occurs. A final default level of security offers minimal protection by automatically blocking the most common types of attacks.

Of the many features within Norton Internet Security, the ad blocking tool is the one many people enjoy the most. All it takes to get rid of nearly every type of web advertisement banner is the click of a button.

Norton Internet Security doesn’t remove every type of ad that is found on the Internet. Ads that are created using JavaScript or other non standard techniques can occasionally slide by the Ad Blocker. The Ad Blocker in Norton Internet Security offers the ultimate in flexibility with a variety of advanced options for fine tuning the blocker until your heart’s content.

One of the other useful features of Norton Internet Security 2004 that you won’t find in most competing clients is the built in Parental Control tools. These tools block access to specific web sites or site categories. Norton Internet Security even goes a step further with Application Restrictions, which will prevent specific applications such as chatting tools or online games from accessing the Internet.

Privacy features in Norton Internet Security range from customizable privacy settings to a Cookie Assistant that will block or permit cookies on a per site basis, to an Anonymous Surfing feature that will block email addresses, referrer field, and user agent from being sent to websites.

With many of the Internet security based clients that are currently available, there’s little left to be desired in Norton Internet Security. Norton is priced a bit higher than other clients, but when you consider all that this program has to offer, $50 seems like a very small price to pay.

Norton Internet Security overall, offers the ultimate in protection for you Internet connection. If you are even the least bit concerned about hackers getting into your computer, or anything else on the net, there’s no better choice at the moment than Norton Internet Security.
